The former Prince Bishops’ Residence forms the focal point of the Residenzplatz, a square considered to be one of the most beautiful baroque squares in Europe. The restaurants, cafés and Eichstätt’s catholic university ensure that the historic scenery is filled with life. The cathedral and other impressing churches and monasteries, the Jura Museum with its unique fossils, the diocese museum and the Willibaldscastle with the famous garden “Hortus Eystettensis” or price-awarded modern architecture are worth a visit. For recreation well marked cycle and walking paths pass through the baroque city of Eichstätt. Or have a go at finding a famous fossil yourself in the quarry near Eichstätt. Being situated right in the centre of the Altmühltal Nature Park makes Eichstätt the ideal setting off point for whole range of excursions. 80 km southwest of Nürnberg, 95km west of Regensburg, 100km north of Munich. By car please use Highway A9, exit Altmühltal. By train you can reach Eichstätt on the trail Munich-Treuchtlingen-Nürnberg/Würzburg vv.
